Lightning re-acquire defenseman who was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens
McDonagh was selected 12th overall in the 2007 NHL Draft
Ryan McDonagh has been traded from the Nashville Predators to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning sent defenseman Philippe Myers and a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft to the Predators in exchange for McDonagh, according to ESPN's Greg Wyshynski.
McDonagh, 33, is a former first-round pick (12th overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Draft. He has spent the past seven seasons with the Predators, serving as the team's captain from 2018 to 2022.
McDonagh is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. He has also represented the United States at the Olympics and World Championships.
The Lightning are hoping that McDonagh can help them win their third straight Stanley Cup. They are currently in first place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 42-21-7.
The Predators are in last place in the Central Division with a record of 25-39-6. They are currently on a 10-game losing streak.
